Today is the official observance of Martin Luther King's birthday. Tomorrow the first non-white president of the United States will be sworn in. The concurrence of these two events into the same constellation is nothing short of portentous; we are making history and by golly, all of us are witnesses to a major step in the healing of this nation from its background of racism and injustice. Guess what was the sole topic of the editorial page today in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette?

Robert E. Lee's birthday.

Nooo kidding.

Look, I get it that he was a nice guy and even the opposition respected him as gentleman and all, but HELLO, this is 2009 and he is DEAD and he was fighting for slavery, people! Can we move into this century?

Okay, really. Enough is enough.

Last night in dreamland I spent my time as the Vampire Girlfriend's Best Friend. No, I don't know when she will be home. No, I don't want to discuss how she feels about you with you. And really, could you use a little less hair gel and get rid of the weird cakey face powder?

It's library day today. Maybe I'll pick out a nice book on knitting patterns or something...

(I do keep coming back today, don't I?)

Here's another drawing for an ARC. It sounds like a fun book! Leave a comment at Deva Fagan's blog and you're entered!

Well, I don't utterly promise, but I'll take a break. Donna St. Cyr, member of my crit group, just got her cover!

I saw this book as it came from Donna's head, and I'm excited that it will finally come out this year! A funny MG adventure through mythology and cheese. Read more about it here.
