creativity and compassion
Sep. 27th, 2008 09:56 pmI heard a talk this weekend about conquering feelings of inadequacy, and I really liked the suggestions: 1) do something creative, and 2) be compassionate/serve others. Isn't that true? Laying aside the issue of submissions and rejections, writing or drawing or even hanging pictures--bringing something new into existence that wasn't there before, as the speaker, Dieter Uchtdorf, said--gives you a high that you can't get any other way. This desire to create is something we people do, as opposed to other animals. We need it!! And the compassion--I think of random acts of kindness that are often small on the surface but which can change someone's whole outlook on the day. What if every day, everyone did one random act of kindness, and did one act of creativity--we'd feel great!
