On hold

If you read German, Carlsen has a really nice web site. They are a large (possibly the largest?) publisher of children's books translated into German. They publish Melissa Marr, Stephenie Meyer, JK Rowling, Rick Riordan, Shaun Tan, Sherryl Jordan, and many others. I just browsed their site looking for a sample chapter of the first Percy Jackson book since son #1 is supposed to do a book report and needs to read a sample out loud. We have some books, but they are in English, and the one in German that's on hold at the library appears to have been absconded with. At least, the last user hasn't bothered to bring it back yet, despite being overdue. Carlsen doesn't have sample chapters for all their books, but whew, they did for this one. It's fun to read the first chapter of books en masse, too.

Another fun site if you're looking for a place to live far away is zillow.com. You can both find a house on a street map/satellite picture, and check out its market value. I've been using google earth for the satellite viewing, but my sister put me onto zillow. It's veeeery revealing to check out houses from space. Like the overpriced one in a nice, wooded location--and about 50 junky cars dumped around it. Uh-uh, folks. Actually, I'm going to have to put my housing search on hold because strangely, it's too early to look for an August rental in mid-June. I might as well be trying to find something for 2040. At least, that's the reaction I'm getting from all the owners I've called. Good thing I have a cheap phone rate to the US.

I think I'm giving myself a break from the revision. I don't know what else to do with it at the moment, and the harder I look at it, the more cross-eyed I get. Besides, I want to write fresh stuff!

I'm also on hold for packing. It's hard to pack up stuff you're going to be using for another two months. And it's hard to ship stuff off when you don't have an address yet. Ditto on hold for all the passport stuff, since the kid isn't out yet.

I guess I'll have to just sit around, eat chocolate, and read novels. Sheesh!
