Good and bad on a Friday
Jun. 13th, 2008 01:50 pmThe good stuff:
People took my kids yesterday so I could lie down. This is because at 33 weeks I've dropped and the kid is very low and I'm having contractions. You're not full term until 37 weeks, so it would be really nice to make it to the 5th of July or so.
I'm nearly done with the biggest part of my structural revision.
So far, the place we accepted a job for the coming academic year hasn't been affected by the apocalyptic weather in the US this summer.
The bad stuff:
Germany lost last night to Croatia.
Now that I've clarified, make my protagonist more active, and moved things up in the story, I have um, never mind, I won't say how many extra words my ms has taken on. This is NOT GOOD. I need to chop tons and tons of words. I don't even know where they all came from. I have no idea where to start cutting. And I still have to go back and smooth out/add in all those feeeelings.
The other school involved in the very difficult choice of which job lottery ticket to buy (ie, the one we DIDN'T pick, or perhaps more accurately, the one that probably wouldn't have picked us) is undergoing flooding. 4000 people evacuated from the center of downtown as floods sweep the area up to the doorknobs. (Come to think of it, last time DH was in the top three candidates for a tenure-track job--and wasn't chosen--that university was hit shortly thereafter with a tornado. Coincidence?)
My condolences to those of you dealing with weather disasters. Envious vibes to you who easily strip thousands of words from your ms. Have a good Friday!
