So after many months I managed to convince DH that my laptop really was unusable. The screen didn't work. The keyboard was peeling off. The battery fell off all the time, and the cord was frayed. And hallelujah, we got a good price on a used one in the States and my visiting sister-in-law was able to bring it. My father-in-law (who has the same computer-fixated genes as the rest of the men in that family) went through it carefully and made sure every single thing worked. And it did work. Until this weekend. Every time I log it the whole thing freezes up. DH thinks either the heat sink got shifted in transit, or there's a driver problem, but he's off traveling to a distant library today, and won't be back until tonight. Today, of course, is the day that I finally have time to work on a lot of computer-related things I have coming up, and fewer children home at one time to entertain. ARGH!! I have a half-finished Spanish assignment stuck on the laptop, as well as a full ms I'm critting for a friend. Some recommendation letters to send, a draft to work on myself...I've been looking forward to getting so many things done TODAY, and now I'm stuck. (Yes, I'm on a computer now--but it doesn't have my stuff on it.)

Life is so unfair. :(
