I'm amused
Nov. 19th, 2007 07:39 amSo this morning I wake up early and find my copy of Twilight out of the bookshelf. That's funny, I think. Then my husband gets up. My husband who is all over NF books about hermeneutics, or how to write the perfect bibliography, or textual analysis, or who knows what else. My husband who has a habit of taking out the red pen whenever he reads books I like. He says, "All I meant to do was to read a chapter last night..."
No, he didn't finish it last night--but he did reclaim it for breakfast, and took it along when he left his morning--in case he needs reading material on the bus. I am laughing. He says it only took a chapter or two to see why the huge advance. The prose is fine, he likes the humor (it's not like I thought anyone was going to bite me on the first day of school...), but the biggest hook is that there's always one more thing you don't have an answer to. Why does Edward react so strongly to get away from Bella? What's up with the vampires? What's the answer to the next question? He says it pulls him along and there isn't any putting-down part. Also, having grown up with three younger sisters, he says the voice is dead-on. (And since I work with teen girls myself, I have to agree.)
So anyway, he's the last person I'd expect to pick up a rather girl-centric vampire book, but um, Stephenie Meyer has obviously done something right if she's got my husband reading her book.
