What not to do when baking Martinswecken: revisions. I got a "brain blast" (to cite Jimmy Neutron) on a problem I need to fix, and unfortunately, some of them are a little toastier than they should be. Oh, well, it'll be dark and nobody will know I brought them, right?

Tonight it's supposed to be cold (30s F/single digits C) and rainy. Right now there's an exceedingly strong wind. I'm trying to be excited about walking up to the school and singing in the cold while the kids' lanterns alternately catch on fire and dissolve in the rain. We do this again tomorrow for the kindergarten. If we don't get pneumonia tonight.

Well, we sludged through the rain, and I was able to keep the lanterns from flying across the field behind us. We even delivered the rolls we were supposed to (the Martinswecken). But I don't think they sold much. Instead of the schoolyard, they had the program at the church next door, and the only parading the kids did was between the school and the church. By that point I gave up and took the girls home. It was not a nice night to be out! DH stayed with the boys and actually got to watch this time. (Last year he was the one huddling inside with the freezing younger kids.) The kindergarten is doing their tomorrow. Looks like the boys won't be bringing their lanterns along. They completely dissolved on the way home.

If you would like to enjoy the lovely sounds of children singing St. Martin songs (without the rain and wind), go here and click on "Komplettes Lied" with either Quicktime or or wave. The song that comes up is my favorite of the bunch, but there are others on the left that you can check out, too.
