Saturday randomness
Jun. 2nd, 2007 11:02 pmWhy is it that what you haven't done often eclipses what you have done? Today was one of those weird days where I got things done, including a nebulous mess of a chapter that feels like total dreck to me, mostly because it's one of those chapters with a lot of small, yet important scenes that have to happen before the next big event. The whole chapter needs some shape to it, but I'm too tired to put it together. My chapter outline just looks like a list. Ugh. But I'm draftily breezing my way up through 25,273 words as a continuous (gelatinous?) mass, plus the 6K that I wrote out of sequence and haven't gotten to yet.
Of course, this all came at the expense of the things I should have been doing today, ie, some Spanish prep, a bilingual letter, and a zillion loads of laundry. (The laundry isn't my fault. The machine has stopped spinning, and half the time the door locks and I can't get the clothes out. I HATE HATE HATE frontloading washing machines!! And that is nearly the only kind in Germany. And since we don't have a car to lug things around in and since this is already our second washer since August, I'm NOT AMUSED.) Between the rain and the soggy clothes, nothing is ever going to dry. I hope you all are nice to your dryers.
I did also spent some time on the playground, and my kids ended up playing with some neighbor kids for a bit. That is a good thing. They're speaking a lot more German at home now (I'm now wondering if anyone will have to relearn English when we go back next year?), so it's being a little easier to make friends with random children outside. (Besides helping them socially and linguistically, it keeps them out of their current favorite inside game--making potions with sugar, water, and lots and lots of food coloring. It's not that I want to stifle natural curiosity and inventiveness...I just wish we had a house elf to sop everything up afterwards.)
Okay, off to bed. I'm not even making sense anymore. I bet I wake up tomorrow and find that my chapter is in Pig Latin.
